WELLINGTON, Last Night.

Only twenty telephones arrived by the Te Anau. Already there are twenty-six applications for admission to the exchange. The Government have telegraphed for two professors for the Auckland University. . A telegram has been received that Captain Doughty, of the Auckland ichooner Opotiki, was washed overboard and drowned. He leaves a wife and five children. Major Mair has been appointed a jiidge of the Native Land Court, vice Captain Symonds, resigned. This promotion is intended to mark the Government's appreciation of his long and valuable services in connection with native affairs.
