Dangers of the Alps.
A remarkably bold and hazardous Alpine excursion has just been made by two Englishmen, whose names are given as Maund and Bowman, accompanied by the guides Jaun and Maurcr, of Meiringen. An attempt to reach the summit of the Galeustock proved a failuic. After passing a night on the Grimselhorn and paying a visit to the Aar Glacier they were compelled to retrace their steps without achieving their object. Undeterred by the dangers they had encountered, they set out one day last week witli the intention of ascending in succession the Schafhorn, the Schwarzhorn, the Axalpcvhorn, and the Schwabenhorn. The snow was deep and the peril great, and while making the ascent of the Axalperhorn Mr Maund and both guides were swept away by an avalanche. The guides, by a welltimed leap, contrived to free themselves from the snow, but Mr Maund was less fortunate, and he was rescued only by the united and prolonged exertions of his companions. The party ultimately reached Meiringen , safe and sound, after an absence of five days.
