FELLMOMGERY COMPANY FOR WAIKATO.

A meeting of those interested in the establishment of a company for the carrying on of a fellmongery business at Ngaruawahia, was held yesterday in Mr T. Y. Fitzpatrick's office. The meeting was well attended by settlers, and considerable interest was taken in the proceedings. Capt. Lindsay was voted to the chair, and explained the object for which they had met, and the desirability of fostering an indnstry that would be of such benefit to the district generally. After a discussion, entered into by most of those present, Mr Rathbone proposed the first resolution : —"That a company be formed for the establishment of a fellmongery in Ngaruawahia, to be called the Waikato Fellmongery Company." This was seconded by Mr Frazer, of Te Kowhai, and carrieed unanimouslg. The next proposition was moved by Mr Carpenter, '' that the capital of the company be £5000, in 5000 shares of £1 each in terms of the following prospectus which he proposed for adoption."

PROSPECTUS OF THE WAIKATO FELLMONGERY COMPANY (LIMITED), NGARTJAWAIIIA. Capita], in £t shares; 2s 6dpayable on application and 2S 6d on allotment; and no further calls for a period of six months. The manager to be a thoroughly competent man and a. large shareholder. It is proposed to erect at Ngaruawahia a fellmonfjery (site jet to be chosen by the directors), suitable to treat all thp skins procurable in the Waikato and other districts. The position of Ngaruawahia is most suitable for a business of this, kind, having such communication by rail, river, and roads, the water of the Waipa river also being considered of the best quality for the purpose. It is proposed, when the follmongery has been made a success, to further extend the company's operations by erecting a soap and candle factory, as the business of fellmongcry and soap and candle works arc twin sisters. It is also intended to extend the business still further by adding a tannery, after the former has been properly established, and to follow with a wool-scouring business. This is considered to be the beginning of a number of industries in Ngaruawahia which ncrcisarily must follow, and which will greatly assist the fanning 1 industry, and cause all the jand in the neighborhood to be put under cultivation and be made remunerative. This proposition was seconded by Mr John Martin, of Willow Bank, and carried without dissent. The following names were then submitted, said agreed upon by the meeting as <a provisional directory :—Capt. Lindsay, Messrs Fraser, Martin, C. J, Stone, J. A. Douglas, Capt. Steele, Messrs E. Fitzpatrick, Davies, Hy. Byron, Rathbone, Edgecumbe, and Lamb, with power to add to their number. On the proposition of Mr Carpenter, Mr T. Y. Fitzpatrick, was appointed broker and secretary pro tern, and was instructed to write circular letters to those gentlemen Avhose names appear on the above list, asking them to assist in furthering the object of the company. A vote of thanks to the chairman bi'ought the meeting to a close. An adjournment was then made to witness the sports.

It is estimated that 3,395,000 bushels of Victorian giown wheat will be available for export this season. An English comic paper says :—Verylittle jewellery is worn at the seaside this summer. Much of it is left at home with good nuclei,, who furnish travelling funds. "One touch of nature," etc. — Street preacher — " What can Ido to move you I in this world oi wickedness ? " Small boy — "Send round the hat, guvnor. That'll move 'em." Lady lodger : "Your dog, sir, is unbearable. He lioavls all night." Male lodger: "Indeed! Well, he might do worse than that; he might play the piano all day." One night in the spring of 1862 General Richardson, who then commanded a brigade, took it into his head to inspect the picket line. Coining upon areserved picket of about thirty men under command of a captain of the Second Michigan Infantry, the General saw fit to interrogate as follows : — "Captain, in case of an alarm by the advance picket what would you do ?" Send oft' a reinforcement at once." "And if the firing continued ?" " I &hould move up with the remainder of my foice." " And suppose a whole company of the enemy should press forward !" " We'd whip them." " But if it was a regiment ?" " I'd form a line of battle and check them until I sent back and got orders to charge and capture the whole lot." '•' Well, suppose a brigade should move down on you in battle line ? " " I'd order a charge, split the column in two, and whip both halves in detail." At midnight the captain was relieved from further duty on picket. He was very indignant and considerably puzzled, but after thinking the matter over for awhile he said to a brother officer — ' ' Say, I've struck it ! Old Rich was afraid my company might gobble the whole Confederate army and throw him out of a summer's job! If that ain't selfishness then I'd like to know what is?"
