CORRESPONDENCE. [ADVERTISEMENT. ] THE CASE OF REPORTED SCARLET FEVER.

[ENCLOSURE S.] Hamilton, March 14th, 1882.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, Reports having been circulated to the effect that Arthur Petty, who is in our employment, is suffering from scarlet fever, and these reports being calculated to injure our trade, we will feel obliged if you will in«ert the enclosed letter and certificate from Dr. Carey. — We are, &c, Qualtrougii & White, Butchers, Hamilton.

Mrs Moore. Madam,— You have asked me to examine your son, Aithur, and to give my opinion as to his condition. I have therefore examined him this day, and find his throat somewhat relaxed. You will remember bringing him to my rooms on the Bth inst., suffering from sore tliro.it, and my asking you questions in order to get its history, when you told me that he had caught cold by keeping his wet clothes on. Knowing how subject the members of your family are to quinsy, I concluded at once he had been suffering from that complaint. He was then, as now, quite free from any eruption or fever, and I see no reason for altering my opinion. J. Carey,— L R.C P.. M.R.C.S. I have this day examined Arthur Pctt3', and find him free from the symptoms ot scarlet J. Cari v,— L R.C.1?., M.R.C.S. Forest L.ike, March ijth, 1882.

A Mississippi man puts it thus : — "At the earnest solicitation of those to whom I owe money I have consented to become a candidate foi county tieasurer." " My son," said the wise father, deftly laying the strap along the shrinking back of his howling son, " I'm doing this for your own good." And, as the lad jumped clear over the saw-buck, he wailed — " Don't make me too good, dad ; be not righteous overmuch, you know."
