AUCKLAND, Last Night.

An accident, which will probably prove of a most serious nature, occurred to a Mr Dennison, of Newmarket, this afternoon. He was riding round the corner of the Remuera road, when, by some cause, he was thrown from his animal. A crowd of persons collected on the spot, and the Rev. Mr Munro, who was passing in his carriage, had him placed in the vehicle and conveyed to his residence. Dr Tait attended to the injuries which had been received by Dennison, but the nature of these have not been ascertained. Blood was flowing from several cuts and bruises. A serious fire occurred at Mount Albert on Saturday evening, the stable, looseboxes, etc., attached to the premises of MrGreenwood, being burnt to the ground. Mr Greenwood and family are residing at their summer residence at Lake Takapuna, and the only persons on the Mount Albert property were a man named Murphy and a boy. Murphy stated that when the cows were milked at half-past 5 o'clock everything appeared safe, and he was under a similar impression when he visited the stable at 6 o'clock. At 7 o'clock the incipient conflagration was discovered in one of the loose-boxes, and the efforts made to extinguish it being futile, in an incredibly short time the building was in flames, and scarcely anything was saved. Fortunately, Mr Greenwood had sent his carriage to Cousins and Atkins forrepairs, and had taken a buggy over to the lake with him. The building was totally uninsured. Mr Greenwood estimates his loss at £250. Superintendent Thomson received the following telegram from Constable McKnight, stationed at Drury :—" Dr Rodgers, of Bombay, was found dead in his house this morning." The constable is arranging for inquest this evening.
