After the arrival of the lion. Mr Hall in Hamilton on Thursday last, Rewi amis introduced to him, in the cottage adjoining the Hamilton Hotel, by the lion. Mr Brycc. The following discourse took place :— Mr Bryce said ho li.id bi ought Kewi from Kihikihi as he was anxious to see him (Mr Hall). Mi- Hall replied that he was very glad to see him, and thanked him for coming the whole way from Ki'nkihi to see him. He had often heard of him, and know that he had been an honorable foe when at war with each other Now they .should become great friends. Rewi said he was pi spared to fight the quarrel to the end, as the war was undertaken with the approval of the Maori people, with some of those who have been taking a prominent part in the cause of the country. They wished to make peace, and he (Rewi) consented. Though he had fought, he never gave his consent to mako peace until he met Sir Donald McLean. On subsequent occasions he had met members of the Government with whom he renewed expressions of friendship. He wished to have some conversation Avith Mr Hall in reference to a conversation he had with Mr Bryce, as they had both agreed that taihou was a very bad motto. He thought the time had come for action. Mr Hall remarked that he was very glad indeed that Mr Bryce and Rewi w ere so much in accord, and told Rewi that he would find Mr Bryce a good counsellor, and that the Government would be very glad indeed to make satisfactory arrangements.

It has been a great success in Sydney and Melbourne, and when strictly carried out the customer who buys at an establishment where the goods are marked low to ensure a rapid sale must be a great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery, millinery, and clothing at such prices for cas.li as gives the buj cr the advantages of a shareholder in a co-operative society, without the risk of being 1 called upon to bear a portion of the loss should the jear's business prove unsatisfactory* Garlirk and Cranweil will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are detei mined to give the pure cash sjstoiFa fair trial: whether they gain or lose the first «.ar Country buvcrs on remitting cash withordei aiII be supplied with goods at co-operatve prices ; just the same as though they made a personal selection. Auckland There are many subjects on which a man is bound to have an opinion, when a little clever, superficial paradox is the utmost society demands from a woman, and feminine ignorance is always pardonable, if it is only appreciative. •The family is the very core of .ill society, and those who do not learn its lessons and taste its joys are but very imperfectly prepared for the outer life wbicli they imagine to be so much broader jmd fuller. /
