ALEXANDRA.
There has been but little doing here this last week, natives being busy harvesting their grain crops, and Tawhiao's people preparing for building. Wahaiuu still remains very unwell, he complains there is no medical officer appointed to attend natives. Old Manuhiri's daughter, Te Rarua (Te Reinga) has also been ill for some time past, but is now reported to be recovering. The reason Tawhiao left the racecourse on Thursday last was not that he objected to pay the entrance fee at the gates, as he had paid the man 2s thinking he had given him the 2s 6d. Before the mistake could be explained, or Tawhiao get the other sixpence out of his pocket, his horse was seized by the head and backed. L'his riled Tawhiao, who, telling the gatekeeper to keep the 2s, rode away for Alexandra, but meeting Major Jackson, was induced by that gentleman to return with him to the races. Our public picnic takes place to-day at Te Rore (Mr Lanes). The Alexandra Band accompanies the youngsters. — [Own Correspondent, Monday.]
