, Wellington, Last Night. It is understood that His Excellency, family and suite, will leave for Christchurch on Friday next. It is expected he will be absent three months, returning in time to open Parliament in May. It is expected that a sculling match between Messenger and Hean will be arranged. The latter wishes the distance to be 3^ miles.
Mastkrto;s t , Last Night. Burke was to-day committed for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged 10 years.
DaifEDix, Last Night. Smith, a settler at Tuapeka West, has been committed for trial on a charge of stabbing, with felonious intent, another settler. They were proceeding home from a meeting, when they quarrelled, and during the struggle Smith stabbed the other with a pocket-knife in the neck and thigh. The National Mortgage Company have declared a dividend of 5 per cent, for the half year.
Gisbobne, Last Night. The inquest on the recent fire will be held on Monday.
