LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night.
The cable from Ponsonby to the North Shore was successfully laid. At the liceusiug nomination to-dayj the publicans and Good Templars each nominated tickets. At the Acclimatisation Society's meeting to-day, Mr Russell said that hitherto quails had been shot at too young an age, while persons having licenses for shooting native game did not scruple to shoot pheasants as well. Under these circumstances, he did not think the season should commence before May. He therefore moved to that effect. The motion was carried. The Warkworth Agricultural Show is being held to-day, and is successful. It is largely attended. A great number of Auckland visitors are present. The exhibits in some classes are hardly as numerous as in previous years. Mr John Campbell took the Society medal for the best stallion. Mr Seymour George's special prize, for a collection of preserved flour, was received by Edward Morrison ; the second prize, Hurst's pig, W. Munro. One ot tlie features of the exhibits is Mr Jones' collection of saddlery. The annual dinner will take place at three. The Hobson Baud, under Mr Sheehan, is present.
