YESTERDAY. [BY TELEGRAPH.] Auckland, Last Night.
The above match was commenced on Thursday, the weather being splendid. There were between 1500 and 2000 people on the ground during the afternoon. Mr Impey's excellent band was present. Great complaints were made of the bad management on the part of the committee, or those responsible for carrying out the arrangements for the match, which were very incomplete. No provision was made for drags to convey the teams to the ground, and it was after 1 o'clock before the final rolling of the ground took place. It was also remarked that the committee ought to have provided a marquee for ladies. The election of captain resulted in favor of Mr W. W. Robinson, but as two had not voted he retired in favor of Mr Mnmford. The home team went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 122, ot which Lynch contributed 19, Cameron 16, King 13, Yates and Isaacs 12 each, and Donovan 10. Shaw and Barlow bowled throughout, Shaw being very destructive, as a glance at the analysis will show. The fielding of the Englishmen was excellent, and was greatly admired. The scores and bowling analysis are :—: —

English Eleven. Robinson's and Buckland's fielding was very much admired. Buckland was loudly cheered for the low catch which disposed of Midwinter. Owing to the large and active field, runs were difficult to get, but, notwithstanding, Shrewsbury and Scotton, the left-handed players, punished the leather terribly. In the afternoon the game became tedious, in consequence of these players holding their wickets so tenaciously, re turning with their bats after three hours at the wickets. Shrewsbury's score showed two fours, and upwards of twenty twos. Robinson took Lynch's end, and Arniel Lankham's, in the hope that the change would effect a separation of the obstinate batsmen, and they again were superseded by Cox and Farrar, but all in vain. Selby had to retire while at the wickets, owing to temporary sickness, and Midwinter took his place only to meet a summary fate at Buckland's hands, as already reported. The game will be resumed to-morrow.
