EWEN'S HILL CUTTING.

In accordance with the decision come to at the last meeting of the Waikato County Council, Crs. Graham and Wells waited on Mr J. B. Whyte, M.H.R., with a view to getting a special grant of £200 from the Government to repair the damage at Ewen's hill and the Narrows road by the recent flood. Mr Whyte promptly acceded to the request, and telegraphed to the Government on the subject. Yesterday he received a telegram from the Public Works Department intimating that the district engineer, Mr Hales, had been instructed to place £100 at the disposal of the Cambridge Highway Board, and that the Minister of Public Works (the hon. Mr Hall) would make further enquh-ies on the subject during his visit to the district, which is expected to be made in the course of a few days. This will be welcome news to the Cambridge Board, who have not the funds at their disposal to go on with the very necessary work of effecting repairs.
