CHRISTIAN SETTLEMENT TE AROHA.

The Wellington sailing ship has brought a considerable addition to Mr E. Y. Cox's party, and two families, with several single men, went up last week via the Thames. Mr Cox's steam launch, also a variety of stores of every description, for the settlement, have come by the Wellington. The party have, for the time being, taken possession of the cottages erected by Messrs Grant and Poster by families now en route from England : but building operations will shortly be commenced, and may be expected to progress rapidly. A contract has been let for building a temperance hotel, 70 feet by 30 feet, on the block. This, in addition to serving as an accommodation house, will be the residence for the young men of the party, and will contain a large room to be occupied as a reading-room on the principle of the Young Men's Christian Association on week days, and for religious services on Sundays. On Sunday afternoon last a service was held in one of the cottages conducted by Mr Cox and Mr. Johns, which was attended by the families of some of the settlers and workmen on the estate. It has been decided to name the settlement "Shaftesbury," after the noble President of the Young Men's Christian Association. A landing has already been formed on the river,, and this will .be known as "The Shaftesbury wharf."

Notice is given that the partnership hitherto existing between E. D. H.'JDaly and H. J. Turner, as; graziers and sheep owners, has been dissolved by mutual consent, as from the 7th ; inst.^ ' .
