ALARMING EXPLOSION. (PER TELEGRAPH.)
A pres.s Association from Wellington last night reports :— The explosion of a jar of chemicals stowed in the back premises of Barrad & Sons took place at 7 o'clock this evening. Mrs Anthony, who was in the yard, received the full force of the explosion. Both her hands were blown off, and her arms fearfully mangled. Her face was also severely injured, but the extent of the injuries cannot be ascertained. The explosion was heard all round ttie neighbourhood, and pieces of the jar which contained the explosives were picked up nearly 100 yards away. It is believed that sulphuric acid caused the explosion. Mrs Anthony ia the wife of the manager at Barrad's. One of the children also sustained some slight injuries.
