NEW ZEALAND WHEAT.
Thr New York Produce Reporter, of September 10th,. has the following emphatio testimony to our New Zealand wheat :— "Last winter we imported from Adelaide, South Australia, via San Francisco, and overland by rail, name 1500 bushels of heavy oats for the Agicnltural Department at Washington for distribution for seed purposes, and as will be j Been from an advertisement, in another column of Messrs I. Williams and Son, 16 Stone-street, this city, they now have for sale 1700 bushels of aeei wheat from the same quarter. And wo have received from' Auckland, New Zealand, per barque Thames, a bag of the bandtoinest white wheat we ever laid eyes on. The sender, John Lamb, Esq., Waitem&ta ' Mill*, writes us that the average yield of this grain in New Zealand often reaches 40 bushels per acre. The average yield of wheat in this country in the most prolific seasons is nnder .15 bushels. Who be* lievei that the climate and soil of New Zealand for wheat growing purposes are as much better than those of our' fertile lands as 40 is greater than 15 P We shall be pleased to send a small sample of this New Zealand wheat to -all who may apply for it, bat only on the honorable understanding that it shall be used eolelv for seed purposes: One pint would seed the hundredth part of »n acre, and if the yield be kt good as in New Zealand, the product would be forty-one hundredth* of a bunhel/ and this returned to 'the soil should gift* a ' proportionate increase, ot, ■ay sixteen bushels, 1 and that quantity would tee 40 acres the third year. The resistent qualities of the^e Australian and Ntfw Zealand' Wheat* from rus^ ; are- said to be very ifreat, and we again respect* fully urge upon our readers the import* abc© of giving the grain a fair trial on American •oil."
