Auckland, Night. The elections to-day caused a great stir in all parts of the city and suburbs, though they were conducted with remarkahle quietness. The absence of cabs and treating gave a particularly quiet aspect to the polling booths, and many candidates had not even committee rooms. The centre of interest vras City East, where a large number of private carriages were engaged bringing Toters all day. At the Police Court to-day," Plummer was charged with sending a threatening letter to Dtt Philaon*- The evidence adduced by the police -was" very strong. The case is not concluded.' Several witnesses identified prisoner its tH© man who was seen in close proximity to Dr. Philson's house on the day he 'tent for the parcel. Erpe«ts are prepared to depose that the handwriting on the letters is exactly similar to that in a letter which prisoner wrote to Williams, a tailor, desiring to purchase his ' house. The hearing of the cases will occupy several days.
