LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS. (PER TELEGRAPH.)
Last night's Press Association wires conveyed the following :—: — Heavy rains fell this afternoon. They weie veiy much needed, both for sanitary and agricultural purposes. An enquiry into the origin of the late fire will be held to-morrow. The sitting of the Appeal Court to-day was entirely taken up with the case of W. L. Rees v. Barker (Napier). The application made was for a new trial. Judgment reserved. The Intercolonial weather exchange reports yesterday were as follows : — Sydney, Monday. Light S.E. and N.E. winds' on south coa&t of Australia and Tasmania; light S.E. winds over New South Wales. Barometer : Portland, 3O'l ; Hobart, 30 0 ; Sydney, 30;2. Intelligence has just been received from Waitemata that, Mr Chas. Vincent Clarke has retired from the election contest for that seat.
