WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING, AUCKLAND.
Os Thursday the chairman (Rev. W. Morley) and the members of the district meeting entertained at dinner the ministers of other Methodist churches in Auckland. The Revs. Long and Guy (Primitive Methodist), and Rev. Hodgson (Methodist Free Church), attended and received a cordial welcome. After dinner the Rev. W. Morley, in the name of all the ministers present, expressed his pleasure at seeing ministers of the sister churches. The Revs. Long, Hodgson, and Guy all spoke, expressing pleasure at the success of the Wesleyan Church in this colony, and hoping that that success would greatly increase. At the afternoon session the native work was considered. The Rev. Martin Luther White (Maori) was examined in various subjects by the Rev. T. Buddie, and answered all the questions very satisfactorily. It was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. H. Lawry, seconded by the Rev. T. Buddie, " That the Rev. M. L. White pass in his year." The Rev. W. Slade addressed the meeting, recommending the appointment of a Maori missionary to Raglan circuit. The Rev. T. Buddie moved, "That a young Maori missionary be appointed," which was carried unanimously, subject of course to the decision of conference. Monday next being the day for the financial district meeting, when the various circuit stewards will be present, it was resolved to hold a fellowship meeting on the evening of that day in Pitt-street upper school-room. On Friday the meeting assembled at 9.30. The Chairman Rave out hymn 436, the Rev. H. Bull and H. Dewsburj offered prayer. After the reading of the minutes of Thursday's proceedings, the Chairman culled upon Mr Maruhall, a candidate for the ministry, to state *he reasons why be offered bim&elf for that work. Mr Marshall then underwent, at the hands of Mr Morley, a bearching theological examination in all the doctzines of the New Testament. He had previously taken the literary examination, the result of which will not be known till the meeting 1 of the Conference in January. After the theological examination the candidate retired while the meeting: decided whether to accept or decline his offer. The Rev. T. Buddie spoke in favour of tho candidate, as did several other ministers, after which it was resolved to receive him for training at Three Kings' College. The Revs. Rameko and Wi Warena, native n>inintsrrt from Hnkiungu, were also examined by the Rev. T. Buddie, each giving au account of his woi k and studies during the year. The Rev. W. L. Suiter, who has completed bis four year* of piobation, was requested, by the chairman, to state the lea^ons why he felt called to preach the gospel, atter which he likewise underwent a very searching theological examination. At the afteinoon behaion, it wa<* icsolved to recommend the Rev. W. L. Saltor to the coming Conference for ordination.
