LATEST AUCKLAND. [PER TELEGRAPH.]

Our correspondent wires last night : — George Brown, messenger for the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, fell through a glass verandah to the asphalt pavement. He fractured his skull and died within a few hours. He was a married man and had a family. A meeting of the committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held this afternoon, when protests entered by Ireland Bros, and John Wallace were disallowed. The Thames volunteers proceeded to the Thames to-day. At parade this morning Capt. Wildman informed the Auckland members of the contingent that if they desired it he would gr<mt them an immediate discharge. If they did this, however, they would have to give Government a clear receipt. The men unanimously decided to proceed to the Thames with the contingent, and take their chance with the rest of getting the balance of the pay they are entitled to under the two months' guarantee upon which they enlisted. Messrs Swanson and Sheehan went as a deputation to the hon. Mr Whitaker to ask his influence in putting right the injustice to the Thames men, but the result has not yet transpired. Mr Swanson telegraphed to the Government concerning the matter, and expects an answer this evening. At Sibbins' sale to-day, prime potted butter brought from 5d to 6d ; Wairoa cheese, 5d ; new potatoes, Gd ; hams 9d ; bacon, sid ; maize, 4s 3d to 4s 6d : oats, 2slod. " '
