COMMERCIAL. Waikato Times Office, Friday. AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.
Mr ALrRED Ruckland's Weekly Report:— At the Haymarkct on Friday, Nov. 4. fodder was in short supply, and brought from is 6d to 4s 6d per cwt; small loads, 14s to 17s. Straw was plentiful, and sold from 6s to 14s per load, and 41 b.iles Poverty Bay hay, L 4 12s 6d per ton. The market was filled with horses, most of which were disposed of at good prices. A draft of colts from Mr Pilkington elicited keen competition ; being very heavy, and sf a superior class, brought from L 35 to L 39 10s each ; medium draught colts, from "Wanganui, Ll7 to L 25; active medium draught (with trials), Ll4 10s to L3O 10s ; light harness horses and hacka, L 7 105 to Ll4 10s. At the Haymarket on Tuesday, less than the usual quantity of hides and skins were pitched. Prices were without alteration. At the Waiuku sale on Saturday, a considerable number of cattle were yarded, bidding was free, and better rates were obtained for stores than for sometime. At Pukokolie, on Monday, there was also a full muster of stock, withgood competition, and the improved prices obtained at Waiuku were sustained. At Remura, on Thursday, dairy cows were scarcely saleable, store cattle in usual supply, with a good inquiry, Fat cattle in less than usual number ; heavy weights dull of sale ; but light weight better worth, many reaching- 27s 6d per ioolbs. Sheep in moderate number, and irregular prices Fat ewes at less values, but wethers advanced is and two shillings per head. Lambs in full numbers and advanced at least is each higher than last week. At the sale of stud stock at Penrose, there was a numerous •Utendatrce. The stock were in good condition and obtained steady competition throughout, and, with a few exceptions, all were sold. Messrs. Hunter & Nolans Weekly Report :— Horses : There has been a spirited inquiry. On Friday, at the Durham Yards, there was a. very large number of all classes brought forward. Competition was keen, and most lots in were cleared at very iatisfactory prices to the vendor, and there was a. noticablc advance on last week's quotations. There still exists a demand for buggy and light harness horses. At Pukekobe, on Saturday (Wednesday being a holiday), the yards wcreolled with cattle, and though the altertion in the day of sale has usually a deterrent effect, the attendance wftf laigc. Bidding' was brisk, and most lots in were cleared, either at auction or privately at- the conchuion of the sale. On Monday (Tuesday being the Agricultural Show), at Newmarket, dairy stock was fairly represented Store* in moderate number. Fat cattle, < all prime quality, in large supply, and good demand. borne, the other from Taranaki, and a draft of fat cattle from Awitu (very choice) elicited keen competition, And an advance on late quotations was obtained. There was no notworthy alteration in prices of dairy stock. Sheep : The supply has been moderate. At Newmarket, on Monday, the usual numbei were yarded. Bidding: was brisk, and an advance of from is to 28 per head was given. Pigs : Few yarded, and sold 1-eely.
