Te Awamutu.
A correspondent writes :— " Col. Lyon inspected the Waikato Cavalry, "A" troop, here on Saturday. It mustered 55 with the band. At the close of the inspection, in answer to questions put by the inspecting officer as to whether any member had anything to say, Captain Rutherford replied the troop was ready to go wherever ordered by the Government, but that at the same time they considered their post of duty to be at their own doors. Commenting thereupon , Col. Lyon called attention to a lack of military discipline by Captain Whitaker in having convened a meeting of his troop for the purpose of volunteering to the front, without first receiving the sanction of his superior officer. At the church pai'ade on Sunday, 47, all told, were present.
