TE AWAMUTU.

A concert given under the au«pioas of the Te AwainuHi lodge of Good Templii> w;is held hcue on Wednesday the '26 h The proceed-*, which amounted to £15 or £16, weie devoted to the fund in aid of the widow and children of the late Mr McKeon. The Templars are to be congratulated oa the success of tho enteitainment, for which they are indebted to Mr Cj. D. Hunter, under whoso able management it was conducted. "Rmu on Swoe*- Angelas" wad sung by Mi»» Alhn, and was loudly applauded, as was albo ".Shy Robm" by Mrs Audiew, who rp-ponded to an encore with " Somebody'Cominsr To-moirow." The To Awamufcu Band, under thb conductor-ship of Mi Siblcy, played several selections during the evening. The thanks of the public are due to that gentleman for lm untiring energy in bringing the band to it--present standard of excellence, as they have always a great musical tri il provided for them on occasions like the above. I ace by your advertising columns that the Alexandi a Dramatic Compiny give another entertainment on the 9fch. They ought to have a go«d hou&o as there ia a consider »ble amount of talent in the members. Mr Bengo also intends giving a similar entertainment on December Bth, in aid of the school library. I have no doubt it will be a i-uccess, as that gentleman is an actor of no mean excellence, and has had a great deal of experience in that line. The volunteers met for drill to-day. I hear a number of them are willing to volunteer for the Plains. Major Jackson's supporters are confident of success, I hope they will not be disappointed; he is the best man they could return. A Grey candidate has no chance of going in now, he is too Lite in tho field. There is some talk of \V. L. Rees offering himself, but he had better remain away, as there is not the slightest chance for him.— '[A correspondent, Te Awamutu, Nov. lst.J

Mr E. H. Gubbins, Ohaupo, notifies that a cow running on jus farm for some weeks wilj be sold if not claimed and expenses paid. The new pure cash sy3tem now being initiated by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the public. It has been a great success in Sydney and Melbourne and when strictly carried out the customer who buys at an establishment where the goods are marked Iqw to ensure a rapid sale must be a great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery millinery, and clothing at such prices for cash as gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder in a co-operative society, without the risk of being called upon to bear aportion of the loss should the year's business prove unsatisfactory. Garlick and Cranwell will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are determined to give the pure cask system a fair trial; whether they gain or lose the first year. Country buyers on remitting- cash with order will bo supplied with goods at co-operative price? ; just the same as though they made, a personal selection. Furnishing' goods, such as carpets, floor cloths, bedsteads, bedding, \nd general house furniture, the largest pprttqn of which is turned out at our own faefgry, will be marked at the lowest remunerative prices, and a. discount pf five per cant, will bo allowed to those who pay at the time of purchase. G. &C. having realised the entire value of their stock during their latp cash sale, the present stock is kiw i and cheaply bought. An inspection is invited.—^Garlick AMD Cranwell, City HallFurpjsliingArca4« Queen* itreet, Auckland '
