Cambridge CC. v. Fifteen Colts.
The firs'" oiickefc match of the season played at CimbiiJirc came off on Saturday afternoon laht in the Government p lddofk, opposite the National Hotel, when fitteon colt I*, who were captained by Mi 1 R. J Stewart, contended against thu luc.il club for tho first honois. Tho weather was pretty favourahle, though .it intervals inchuod to be feomewh.it wwnly, but not to such a degree as to militate against the foitune of either side. There were very few people on the ground with the exception of those interested in tho game, though the sport was of such a nature to afford a quiet afternoon's amusement to any one. The fielding of the colts was very good, and the bowling of their captain, Mr Stewart, was to an extent fatal to their opponent I. S. Reid (who is hardly a "colt") succeeded in scoring 12 for hia side, and this may bo said to be the only good individu.il hoote on their side. C. Peaivon, who had the misfortune to be caup'ht out, ran up a score of 20 for the club, and the next be->t on the same side was that of A. W Pearson, who succeeded in scoring IG. The Cambridge men have made a v ilu.ible addition to their club in the per-on of Mi Speed, who promises to make hn m.ulc this season. Tho stumps woie dr.iwn at 6 o'clock, when the day was decided in favour of tho senior*, who had a substantial majority of 45 in their first inuings. The following is a list of tho scoring : —
