RUAPUKE.

A LA.KQE and appreciative audience was present in the Ruapuke school-room on the evening of the 14th inst., to witness the first performance of the Ruapuke Amateur Dramatic Club. Their clioioo of a piece was a happy one," The Royal Matrimonial Bureau, Dent, manager," affording them full scope for their powers. Mr Johnstone was particularly effective as Mr Dent. The other parts were well filled by Mrs McGavin, Misses Swarm and Johnstone, and Messrs Duncan, McGavin, and Jerome, the audienoe testifying, by their applause, their appreciation of the efforts which were being made for their amusement. The scenery was well painted, and the whole get-up reflected credit upon those concerned in ifc. The club purpose giving another performance at an early date. On the conclusion of the farce, there was a short concert, Miss Oldham, and Messrs Burns and Savage singing several songs in good style. The Ruapuke Minstrel Troop also gave a performance. Their efforts were very provocative of laughter. The corner men,' Messrs McGavin and Jerome, were very successful in their attempts to amuse their audience. Some of the jokes and dialogues were very amusing j some of the songs, especially "The North Carolina Rose," and " Roses Underneath the Snow," were well rendered. I was particularly well pleased to find that the entertainment was a financial success, and the Ruapuke Library— for the benefit of which it was given— will, no doubt, be much improved by it. The number of volumes in this library is quickly incfaaging. and it is mainly due to the success which aUends these entertainments. —(Own Correspondent, Qotyber 17th.)
