FANCY DRESS BALL AT CAMBRIDGE.

Thk invitation fancy dress ball took place in the Public Hall, Cambridge, on Thursday night, and was in every respect a very successful affair. The committee's arrangements were perfect. The hall was neatly, though not ostentatiously decorated with bunting and evergreens, and the floor was in the best possible condition. There was a very large attendance of guests, indeed at times the crowded state of the floor made dancing anything but pleasant. The costumes were varied, and, generally speaking, in exceedingly good taste. The supper, which was laid in a large marquee adjoining the hall, was provided by Mr A. Raynes, of the National Hotel, and was in every respect worthy of the good name the National Hotel catering has secured. The tables were laden with a profusion of everything in season, and the attendance was of the best. The music was supplied by Messrs Stuart (clarionet), Johnson (piano\ Waltho (flute), and Andrews (piccolo). Dancing commenced shortly after 9 o'clock, and was continued with only a ahort intei-mission till about 4 o'clock yesterday morning, the majority of the guests remaining for the last dance. The stewards have every reason to congratulate themselves upon the marked success of the first fancy dress ball ever held in Cambridge.
