WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the above council was held <vt the chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday, October 3 lth, at 10 a.m. Councillors piescnfc were : Messrs Aubin (Chairman), Hadfield, Roche, Oorboy, Buttle. Cunningham, Reynolds, and Steele. The following business was transacted :—: — The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward cor« respqndence was approved. The correspondence received since last meeting was read and disposed of as follows :—: — Letters were read from the Colonial Secretary, and also the Acting- Collector of Customs, upon the matter of paying over license fees. Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr Buttle seconded '• That the clerk be directed to write to the different auctioneers in the county requesting them to instruct the Collector of Customs when taking out their licenses that their usual places of business are in Waipa county, so that this county may receive the bene« fit of the license fees."— Motion agreed to. — On the same question, Mr. Roche moved and Mr. Hadfield seconded "That the attention of the Under-Secretary be drawn to the clauses in the Financial Arrangements Act referring to auctioneers' licenses, and that he be informed that auctioneers' license fees from Messrs Buckland and Hunter, for several years past, have been mispaid to other counties, their residence being in Waipa county • and this council begs to request him to see that a refund of the amount of such licenses be made, and that in future the Collector of Customs, Auckland, be in« 'strueted to issue these licenses in favour of Waipa county." — Motion carried. The clerk was directed to acknowledge the receipt of a letter from the Waikato Cotfnuy Council upon the question of license fees, and to state that the Colonial Secretary had been communicated with upon the subject. An application was received from Messrs Coulthard Bros., for a lease of lot 330, Ngaroto. Mr Battle moved, and Mr Hadfield seconded, "That the clerk bs instructed to reply to Messrs Ooulthard, stating that this * council has not yet obtained the control of lot 330, ftgaroto. t The clerk was further directed tQ
acknowledge receipt of a letter from the liangiaohia Board upon the same matter. The clerk was directed to notify the several returning officers of the approaching elections. Accounts were paid amounting to £8 7s. The council not expecting to meet again prior to the elections, Mr Steele moved, and Mr Hadfield seconded, "That the hearty thanks of the council be teudered to the chairman for his services during the past year. " — Carried unanimously. The treasurer having reported to the council the state of the finances, Mr Corboy moved, and MrHadfield seconded, "That a division of three shillings in the £ on rates collected to March 31st, 1881, be paid to the various road boards in the county." — Carried unanimously. This concluding the business of the meeting, the council rose.
