RAGLAN.
Since my last, we havo been visited by the Revs. S. Bond, of Onehiinga, and H. Bull, of Cambridge. The iormer gentleman was appointed by the last Wesleyan Cbnference to visit the district in the interests of the home mission and chdrch extension fund. The latter gentleman came as guide or companion. 1 On the morning of Wednesday, Oct. sth, was held the quarterly meeting of the preachers and stewards of the Wesleyan church. The place of meeting was the residence of Mr 'Henry Duncan. The Rev. S. Bond presided. The quarterly incom» was moat satisfactory, and the income of the year ending, Sept. 25, was greater by £20 than that of previous years. By a unanimous vote, the meetIng thanked the resident minister for his services, and invited him to remain another yoar, should Conference permit. In the afternoon oi the same day, a soiree in connection with the Wesleyan church, was held in Raglan. The tea was provided by Mr J. Wylie, and paid for by the bachelors. The following ladies presided at the tables : — Mesdames Gilmour arid Bulford, and t;he Misses Wilson, (2) and' Gilmour (3). "At seven the tables were removed, and the public meeting commenced. Mr H. Duncan presided; the Revs.' Bull, Bond, and Slads,' gave addresses ; Mr S. Bridgman recited, and Mrs McGavin, accompanied on the harmonium 1 by Miss M. J. Gilmonr, Charmed the audience with sweet music. A very pleasant evening closed with votes of thanks to all who had rendered assistance, and with the benediction. On Thursday, a pnblic meeting well attended, was held 'at Te Mata, and on Friday, in the Wesleyan church at Okete ; at both which the Revs. Bond and Bull gave excellent and well appreoiatod addresses. Both the rev. gentlemen were pleased with fche cordial feeling among the people, and with, their evident determination to "retain the services of ft minister. , \ Our friends at Ruapuke have advertised a grand entertainment in aid of their library. The' programme includes a comedy, fullof some sort df trieddm, and " made* on the premises." . Only think, an original, sßuapuke-made comedy'/. I shall not be there to hear it, but hope the library funds mil be considerably aug r menteet by,ths entertainment. — [Correspondent, Oct. 10, 1881. ' , '
