CORRESPONDENCE. A VINDICATION. TO THE EDITOR.
Sic, — If you could oblige me by inserting the enclosed in the columns of your valuable paper I shall feel extremely grateful, as it is for the purpose of vindicating my private character which has been so grossly vilified by some low person or persons. — I am, &c, Jas. Sir,— l beg you will excuse the liberty I take in addressing those few lines to you, but when you know the reason for thus intruding I trust you will pardon the liberty I have taken. Some evil disposed person or persons have been going about Kaplan and Waikato spreading a report that the reason of my dismissal irom the Civil Service was on account of my incessant neglect of duty, and lor keeping my office in a slovenly and duty state, and not in conscience ot retrenchment. Now, sir, what 1 desire is that you would kindly send me in writing the leasons for my dismissal, .is such reports as the above arc damaging to my private charactei, <md havebeen spread about for th.it purpose b> a few of a certain clique, some of whom at one time not very long ago were very eager for the position I then held I hope, also, that jou will consent to allow your reply to be published with this letter to confute those vile and false leports — I have the honor to be, sir, youi obedient servant, Jas.
