CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY BOARD.

Tut usual monthly meeting of the Trustees of the Cambridge Highway District was hold at Camp's Hotel, on Wednesday last. Present : — Messrs S. S. Graham (chiiiimati), Selby, Smith, and Fctntham. After the unual pi eliminary business arrangements wore made for rairying 1 out t-evcial small works, and it was resolved to notify the appointment of Mr Collins as i anger.

The Banking Account. Colonial Bank of New Zealand, Cambridge, 20th September, 1881 — Hie Secretary Cambridge Highwa) Board. — Dear .Sir, — Rcpljing to )our Utters of 22nd Julj and 18th August, I beg to state that if the abow Boaid transfer then business to this Bank we are willing to make ad\ances to them at the rate of ( lght per cent, per annum (8 per cent.), out as it is not customary to grant interest on current .u count I would suggest that any balanc e not immediately wanted be placed on deposit tor thiee 01 six months at ruling rates. — Yours faithfully, S. W. Eimis, Acting Manager. Mr Fanthani moved " That the Board's account be transferred to the Colonial Bank at Cambridge." Mr Solby seconded the motion. The Chairman moved as an amendment "That the account remain at the Bank of New Zealand." This was seconded by Mr Smith, and on being put to the Board, was carried by the casting vote of the chairman.

Mr Douglas's Claim. On the motion of Mr Fantham, it was resolved that the Secretary inform Messrs Whitaker and Sheehan that the Board cannot entertain the claim for £20 damages on account of the loss of a horse, and th.it in the e\ent ot legal pioceedings being taken, Mr Hay be instructed to defend.

Other Business. An application from Mr L. B. Ewen, for a sum to cover his losses on his contract, was declined. Mr Snowden v> rote, resigning his seat on the Boaid. The resignation was accepted, and the prelimin.uy steps taken to fill the vacancy Mi Selhy reported that Mr John Runcinian was enuoachmg on the road past lots 83 to 70 by the construction of two open drams, and it was resolved that labour be employed to fill up the ditches, Mr llunciman to be informed that if he re-opened them lie would be prosecuted. 'Mr Selby was deputed to see to the necessary repan.s on the Tamahei e ßoad. The following accounts were passed :—: — Thomas Wells, £6 7s 6d ; Waikato Times, £o 9s Gd ; Geo. Dickenson, 5s 3d ; Secretary, £6 I Is; W. A. Graham, £10. The tiustees agreed to meet at Runcinian's causeway at 10 a.m., on Monday next, to go around the district. It was resolved that the gully on the Cambridge Road, near Arnold's, be substantially fenced, and that Messrs Fanthain and Selby be authorised to plan and carry out the work. This was all the business, and the Board then ro^e.

Ciistanck, late Professor of Agriculture in the Imperial College of Agriculture, Tokio, Japan, and formerly a member of the staff of the Royal, Agricultural College, Cirencester, has been appointed Government Professor of Agriculture in South Australia. Meretton Clydesdales.— The annual sale of the Merryton Clydeßdales took place lately at Mr Laurence Drew's farm near Glasgow.
