CORRESPONDENCE. THE GERMANS AND THE WAIPA ELECTORATE.
TO THE EDITOK. Sib, — I see that a gieat outcry has been raised because it has been stated that cox'tain foreigners at Oh<iupo and other places .are likely to be struck off the electoral roll as aliens. Now I c.iunot see that they have anything to complain of at all. They are living in a country governed by certain laws aud regulations, one of which is that " aliens " shall have no vote ; surely they cannot complain if the lawa of the country are to be insisted on. If their military service is sufficient to naturalise them, well and good ; but that it is not lam led to believe by some who have looked up the Acts. Their course then is clear. Let them apply foi letters of naturalisation, which are to bo got in a very simple and inexpensive manner. Your correspondent "A German " (but whose nationality may be open to doubt) does the " high falutin," "injured innocence " business very well ; but I hardly think it is a manly thing to pitch into the Returning Officer as he does, knowing that that official is not allowed to aay a word in his own defence, more particularly when that gentleman is performing a part; of hia duty, which is above all things to see that thoss who have no right to be there are struck off the electoral rolls. — I am, etc., An Englishman, Hamilton, 22nd September, 1881.
The, Sensation Gift Depot, opposite the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, will open tonight. The B6rough Council of Hamilton invite tenders for certain road works. When a cow 'has a depraved appetite and chews coarse indigestible things, or licks the ground, it indicates indigestion, and she should haye some physic. Give one pint and a half of linseed oil, or one pound of Epsom salts, and afterwards give, in some bran, ono ounce of salt, and the same quantity of ground gingec twice a week.
