CORRESPONDENCE. THE LATEST DISCOVERY. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— Aa political matters are jusfc 'beginning to simmer, some very clever fellow has found out that the German populatidn of- this I place -ihave no votti. Why jt was never discovered before I cannot tell ; or, is it that $, new, star has arisen for people to fall down and worship, or a new king to whom the people of Ohaupo have never yet bent the servile knee, but haye beep faithful to their first love, and borne true allegiance for nearly twenty years, and more than onoe in the hour of danger and trouble took the oath of allegiance,to Her Sfajesty the Queen. That oath, h^s-flevet- been violated ; they have never ranked bn the side of rebels and murderers,' but always been found as good citizens ready to uphold law and order j never birds of passage ready, to fly to fresh fields when danger or trouble threatened them. Then, sir, can you tell us why we should be deprived of our civil rights as, good and loyal subjects ? When our services we're "required ' for the State the question of nationality was never asked. Is it, air 1 , that theMaori King has issued an electoral roll and we have omitted to get registered ? The news of disqualification has been received with indignation. — I am, etc., ' ' ' A German. , Ohaupo, September 19th It is reported (August 22) that £500,000 was taken from the Londonbanks, at date, for, shipment to the United States.
