HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tub usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday, when there were present His Worship the Mayor, iUrs. Peat, Jonea, Tippin, Hill, j and Vialou. The Tp.wn Clerk read the result of the polling in the recent elections and the declaration by the Returning Officer that Mcsara. Labor was cheap at present, and he saw no reason why the money should be allowed to remain in the Treasury. The Town Clerk pointed out that it would be necessary to have an engineer. He had spoken to Mr Mays about it, who had threatened -to fill it up.' A letter eisrned by " Messrs > Lees, Coletnan, and Keep, was read} drawing attention to the bad state oft Firth • street for want of a few loads of gravel. The letter was received. • The following tenders were received for gravelling for the Borough : — C. Carthy, Hamilton EsiPt, Is 2d per cubic yard; Hamilton West, Is 3d ; John Deegari, all parts of the Borough; Is 8d per cubic yard. Ou the motion of Cr. JoneSj the tender of Mr Carthy, was accepted. Cr. MrGr.irriglp'was re-olected a member of the Works and Furze Committees, and it was resolved that the whole Council form the Fin.^nc-e Committee. Attention Jbaving been drawn to the railway crossing in Victoria-street, Cr. Jones said he understood the Department had no intention of forming the street, but The Mayor said the Government invariably teft streets and roads in as good a condition as they found- them, and the matter drooped. The Work" Copimittee reported to tha following effect : — The river bank near Webb'h boundary had bean planted with willows at a cpsfc of £3 10s. They reoommendod that ahout 8 chains of Nixon street be g'ra veiled, and the water channel cleaned ; that aboufc 0 chains of Firthstreet bo gravelled, and a culvert puc in at the junction with -Albert-street; that Kno^c-streefc and portionSxOf Ciarence and Anglesca-streets be formed. After sorao discussion the recommendation contained in the report were adopted, and the Clprk,was instructed to call for tendars for the road formation at once, to be in by the finance meeting the firat Monday in October. On the motion of the Mayor it was resolved that in future a charge of 10s Gd be made for the use of the Borough seal, for 1 sealing law'documents. It was resolved th;it the servioes of Mr Daley, bo retained for the mouth of October. On the suggestion of Cr. Pc it, it was resolved to procure a clock for the Council Chambers. The Town Clerk read the statement of accounts a-, follows : General Account overdraft £442 Ks 2d ; Special Fund account, credit bahnci, £22 8, od. The Council then ro->e.
