[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]

*-• Ewgress of the Session. I j: \ J ., WkIiUNOTO», Tuesday. "T^Wulcl oe'diJticult, if not dangerous to predict what the present state of political affairs may lend to. A general impression prevailed that the end was at hand, and that the prorogation would take place early this week. That prospect cannot now Uie"lf6allse3," >> and**t;lie session' woulcT seem to have taken a posh, lease* of life, and although it^anjharjlly^eexpie^ejjf'to be a Ions? lease, to all appearance it is very likely-tabeivßtorray," if "not- ur very eventful^me v0 Last w,ee;k ,thej Jiegislature commenced work on Monday at 11 o'clock a.m., and concluded the labours of the week at 12 p.m.' on Saturday night, not more than half or even cjuarter ti,me being allowed in the interim for purposes of re^t and'refre'dhment. ' The banef nl effects of this s'ystem'of legislation was apparent in a variety) 6f! ways.* 'For' example, a Committee's report recommending a bonus for, services that were never .rendered' was allowed to, pass, simply because certain, members of the Committee were forced to attending the House pitting at the very time when their services were demanded on committee. ' ' Ddßpite''thafc other faimilar facts, it was felt the end sanctified the rbeans, a3 members were most anxious to get aw,ay home. Up to Saturday afternoon creditable progress was made in the despatch of business, when a bomb was suddenly thrown into the camp in the form of certain alterations of boundaries in the Representation Bill proposed by message from His Excellency the Governor- So far as I can' judge the alterations were not material ; at all events I am correct in saying they did not affect any of the Waikato electorates. Be that as it may, the spirit of bitterness engendered by the strife, consequent upon this measure again cropped up, and for some hours the stonewalling process was k n pt up with considerable determination. Within an hour of midnijrht the stonewall suddenly collapsed, and business wa& once rnqic enabled to make a move. Before long, however, it was again arrested, .an Onehunga endowment; proposed to be got through iv the Special Powers and Contracts Bill, being tho npw found bone for contention., The belligerents were O'Ror,ko and Swanson, the former being enabled to give full play to his powers of persuasion. The bill being under consideration in Committee, the combat for a time was fierce, and at one time it seemed a* if it was in diinirer of s being- kept up thiough the convontional houis of the Sunday morning. Government, lioweker, came to the rescue in the nick of time, a cession of hostilities being therby brought about. This enabled matters to take over Sunday without molestation. Last Night. The session is now down to its last dregs. The impression was that the bubiness would > iinish to-night, and so firmly was that opinion held that steamers for the conveyance of members, both North and South, were detained in the first instance to midnight. A further detention has taken place until to-morrow evening, when there is every probability tlie bulk of the membeis will take their departure.
