HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. TUESDAY'S SITTING.
W^lmxgtojt, Tuesday. The Town Districts Bill was received from the Upper House with amendments, which were agreed to. Major, Atkinson,, moved the second reading of the Property Tax Biif. l Messrs Maunders, Ballance, Moss, Sir George, Giey, and Mr J. B. Fisher opposed the Bill, complaining of , want of information 1 , and Messrs Macandrew and Gisborne supported the measure. The bill was read a second, time. Major Atkin&on moved the second reading of the Customs and Excise ])uties Bill. After some discussiou, in tjie course of which the tendency of the bill to insert the thin end ot the protection wedge was. deprecated, the second reading was canicd on the voices. The Premier laid a despatch on the table, intimating the Royal assent to the Native Lands Court Act of last session. A message was received from the acting Governor assenting to several bills In answer to Sir (Jeorge Grey, The Premier stated that the Government had come to the determination to drop the Leaseholders' Qualification Bill owing to the amendment which Sir G. Grey had carried in committee, limiting the number of votes. Major, Atkinson moved the second reading of the Consolidated Stock Bill, and after some discussion the motion w as carried. In committee on the Customs Duties Bill fair progress was made, all the items being passed as printed. Mr Hall, in conformity with the promise' made during the earlier part of the night, stated that Government proposed dropping the following Bills on the order paper : — Pensions Validation, Education Reserves Act Amendment, Leaseholder's Qualification, Counties Act Suspension, Fisheries, Friendly Societies, Inspection of Machinery, East Coast Land District Land Act, ISB7, Amendment, Land Claims Settlements Act Repeal ; a Committee of the whole House to consider clause 12 ot the New Plymouth Harbour Commission Bill, New Plymouth Harbour Commission, Auckland Museum Endowment Bill. The Customs and Excise Duties Bill was further considered in committee. Clause (i, Distillation, was struck out. The Bill was then passed and reported with aineudments. The Property Tax Bill passed through committee, was read a third time and passed. Eim Consolidated ■ Stock Bill passed through committee, was read a third time and passed, The Native Land Act Amendment Bill was read a third time.
