CORRESPONDENCE. THE LATE FOOTBALL MATCH AT ALEXANDRA. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—^t Griersoh gays in his letter •which appeared in your issue of 13th inst., that I surely ought to be prepared to prove my statements, lv reply to which I can assure him that I am quite prepared to do so— l am prepared to prove that he did not dispute our right to the 2 points fon the ground. The first I saw of the dispute was in his report in your paper. In faot he offered us the 2 points. The only objection he made was to our try for a goal and he also offered to let ua have that providing we allowed him 2 points for a dispute that was settled previously to this, and I can positively assert that he did not give a single reason according to the rules of the game why we should not get a try for a goal. Consequently I stuck to my point, as I considered that if we were not entitled to a kick for goal we were not entitled to the 2 points, therefore I would not take the points without kicking for a goal. Not that I expected to get a goal, as I told him at the time. There was no understanding whatever come too between the two teams that it was to be a disputed point. I am sure it is quite clear that unless he gave some -just reason his mere disputing would not prevent us trom scoring. I asked him several times what grounds he had to dispute the try, he gave no ofcher than what I have stated before, Viz., that it waa got by a mistake. — I have &c, Geo. MaoFarlaxe, Paterangi, 19th Sept. 1881.
