CHESS TOURNAMENT.
Cambridge C. 0. v. Hamilton C. C. As announced, a chess tournament between six members of the Cambridge Che«s Club arid ;m equal number of the members of the Hamilton Chess and Debuting Club commenced on Wednesday evening. Two of those selected to repre« sent Cambridge were unable to attend, and the match was therefore played with four a-mde. Tho visitors were very hospitably entertained by the Rer. William Calder and Mrs CaWer at SPeter's Parsonage, where a room had been kindly set apart for thejfpurnament. The conditions of the game were : — Three hours to be allowed for playing 1 , bat no mote than three gamea to be played ; games left unfinished to be accounted drawn ; games relinquished to be in favour of the player willing to continue ; and all cases of dispute to be decided by the rules laid down by Staunton. The players Were paired by lot, the result being that, Messrs Moreton, Keesing, Worthington, and Stewart (Cambridge) were respectively pitted against Mra T. A. Bell, and Messrs Gaudin, Simms, and Quick (Hamilton). Play commenced afc about eight o'clock, and resulted in placing Cambridge ahead by two games. Mrs Bell won two games from Mr Moreton, but the third was not played owing to want of time. Mr Simmn w,on one and Mr Worthington two games out of their three. Mr Quick and Mr Stewart only played two games, and eack scoredMr Gaudin Jost two gamea to Mr Keesingand retired, the third game being also* Claimed by Mr Keesing. , The scores, ! therefore, stand thus at present: — C.IHPRIIKJK.
