Dry cows were, sold Lt L 3 to L 3 7s Cd ; calves, L 2 to L 2 15s , jeitl'ngs, Li to L 3 7s 6d , 18 months to two-jc 11 -old stcei s, L 4 to L 4 10s ; 40 sheep (fat ewes and wethers), 17s 3d o.ich — At the Ngaruawalua cattle sale on Saturday, there was a very large muster of stock, principally steers ol a good class. Ihere wis a large attendance of settlers, but bu\crs were scarce, and consequently bid ling was dull, and the greater number yarded were reserved tor higher values. ihose sold brought much about the same values as at Whatawh it.i, and several pens of well-bred tin ee-ye tr-old steers will come on for s ile at Ohaupo on lliuisday ne\t. Fat steers brought L 7 15s eich , 100 sheep were penned, lhej were a mi\cd lot, but good quality and 40 of them were sold at i6s each — At the Cimbndge cattle sale on luesdiy last, less th in the average number of stock were jarded All the fat cattle were sold at full < allies ; iit heiters brought L 4 I7i6d; fat cows, L& 1 2.> fid ; and tat steers, L8 toLgss. A pen of well-'i <d \earlings were hold at L 3 2s 6d 0u h. flic d nry cows were withdrawn from the auction, ihe sheep penned were not of good quality, and weie withdrawn. AUCKLUVD CATTLE MARKET. Mr Aihud Bu'khmu's Weekly Report. — Fodder was plentiful at the Havniarket on Sept 2. Oaten and meadow brought fiom 2s od to 5s per cwt. ; straw, 18s to 25s ocr load , s tons bran brought L 5 5s per ton ; 29 tons potatoes from Napier, Li 17s Od to L 2 12s Od per ton; Coast maize, 4s id per bushel A fair number of hoiscs were >aided, and were disposed of at satisfactory prices. Good active medium draught horses weie well competed for, and brought from Ll6 5s to L 25 ; light harness horses and hacks, L 7 15s to Ll6. At the Haymarkct, on Tuesday, hides ivere in short supply, but sheepskins in full number. Late values ruled ; hides brought from 3^ to 4 i-i6d the lb.; full-woollcd station skins, js icd to to 5s id each; fleece wool 7}d; locks, 23d the lb. At the regular monthly sale at Waiuku, on haturday last, about 100 head mixed cattle were yarded, and being mostly young cattle of a good class, found ready buyers. A number of young well-bred pigs were also sold at satisfactory pi ices. At Pukekohe, on, Monday, there was the largest number of stock up to
the present time yarded, above 300 head sold. They were almost solclv quiet cows near calving, 01 joung well-bred cattle. There was a good attendance of buyers, and steady bidding throughout. Dairy cow* ranged from L 5 to L8 12s Od; dry cows, L 3 5s to L4l os : calves, 30s to 55s e.ich. At Remuera, on lnursday, dairy cattle were numerous, but mostly in very lo.v condition. 1 hose were dull of sale, but cattle in good condition were fairly competed for. Fat c.itllo were in moderate number only, and slightly better worth. Prices ranged from 25s to 28s the ioolbs. Fat sheep were yaided in less than usual number, but were at last week's values— about 3d the lb. A few pens ot tat lambs were eagerly competed for, and bi ought fiom 18s 6d to 22s each. Messrs. Hunifk & Nolans Weekly Report. — Horses 1 here has been increased animation in the market, while there has been little alteration in value and increased numbeis have changed hinds. 1 lv- Durh mi yards were well filled on Fudai. lhe Wanganui hoiscs attracted ronsideiable attention, and competition throughout the sale was spirited, nearly all the lots being cleared by auction, and afterwards privately si-wral in excess of those offered could have been disposed of We quote • Hacks, from L 7 to LlB tos , light harness horses, Li 2 to L2O ; medium draught, L 22 10s to L2B, draught, L 37 10s. Cattle I hero has been a 1 irge business done during the last month, 927 were catalogued for the fair at Papakur.i on Alonday, but several lots uere submitted which were too late for the catalogue. Prices ruled in favour of the purchaser, but with the exception of a few lots held over tor the regular sale on Wednesday, the prices realised the expectation of vendors. On luesday, at Newmarket, there was a large muster of fat stock, and but a. moderate one of other descriptions. Prices for fat stock declined is per ioolbs. Prices ranged from 23s to 26s per ioolbs. The draft from Matamata were lighter weights, and, consequently, did not obtain so high an average as the previous one. A shipment of 20 prime o\on from Gisborne elicited keen competition, and sold at fiom Ll2 10s to hij. At the tegular sale at Papakura, on Wednesday, there was again an unusually large muster of dairy and store stock, and there w«is scarcely a noticeable alteration in values as compared with prices obtained at the fair, but, if anything, it was in favour of the purchaser. We quote . C.ihes, from 26s to 435 ; yearlings, L 2 to L 2 19s ; eighteen-month-old steers, I,\ to L 3 5s ; heifers, L 2 17s 6d to L 3 ; two-year-old steers, from Lj to L 3 15s; thiee-year-old steers, L 4 to L 5 12s 6d ; dry lows, L 3 to L 4 15s.
