At a meeting of the fire insurance agents it was made out that the sums paid for fire losses within the provincial district of Auckland, for the year ending 31st August, 1881, amounted to £44,807, as three office's losses were not included in list, the total would be considerably more than the sum natned. Arrival of the Barque Firth of Tay. The barque, Firth of Tay has arrived from London.
Departure of His Excellency for Auckland. Wellington, Last Night. His Excellency left for Auckland in. the Hineinoa at 10.30 this morning.
Mysterious Disappearance of a Captain. Nelson, Last Night. Captain Evans, of the steamer Wakatu, which arrived from Wanganui this morning, is missing. He was last seen about live o'clock in the morning when between Stephen's and Durville's Islands He left a letter in his hat, which was found hanging aft. The contents of the letter are not yet made public. Baxter, chief officer, brought the steamer into port.
