BOROUGH OF HAMILTON. Election of Councillors.

The polling 1 for candidates to fill the vacancies in the Council caused by the retirement of Councillors McG-arrigle, R. F. Sandes, and Lovett, whose terms of office had expired, took place on Thursday, at the Council Chambers, Hamilton West. Mr J. M. Gelling, Returning Officer, conducted the proceedings, and Mr S. Pascoe acted in the capacity of Scrutineer. Apparently no very large amount of interest was taken in the proceedings except by one or two of the aspirants themselves, who were occasionally to be seen in the ! vicinity of the polling booth. Two of the candidates, Messrs Gwynne and Sandes, took no part in the election whatsoever, except the recording of their votes, and considering this it was a subject for wender that they polled as many votes a3 they did. Those who had any inclination to speculate on the event, selected Gaudin as the popular candidate, and the result proved how nearly right they were. The election was probably the quietest and most decorous that has ever taken place since the Borough was established. Up to about lpm. only about twent) votes had been recorded, and although the bur- i gesses, for whose convenience a couple of busses were kept running, rolled up in larger force during the afternoon, at no time was the Returning Officer hurried. The total number of votes polled afc 6 o'clock, the hour at which the doors were closed was 385. At a little after half-past six the Returning Officer declared the result of the polling to bear as follows :— Lovett, W 101 Gaudin, F 83 McGarrigle, E 74 Gwynne, R. 59 Sandes, R. F 51 Wood, W 15 Informal 2. Messrs Lovett, Gaudin, and McGarrigle were therefore declared duly elected. The draught stallion " Argyle," the property of Mr Robert Wallace, Mangare, is advertised to travel the Waikato district this season, and stand at the farm of Mr Gane, Pukerimu. Attention is directed to several notifications by Mr Richard Laud. Messrs Clark and Gane invite tenders for the hire of 136 acres grass land on the farm lately occupied by Mr H. W. Tinne,' Tamahere. Mr A. Buokland will cell at the Remuera. yards, on Wednesday next, from 500 to 600 well-bred cattle, the greater number of which 1 are hand-fed. Mr R, W. Roche, Land and Commission A gent, To Awamutu, advertises that he has farms for sale in various pait* of the district. He also announces that he has been appointed agent for the 1 - sale of Messrs Reid and way's celebrated agricultural impfooieata,
