The Chairman of Committees. Wkllixgton, Last Night. The House met .it 2.30. Mr Gibbs gave notion of motion " That (lie conduct of the Chairman of Committee on Fnday evening in refusing to put <i question pioposed by Mr Gisborne for repotting progiess with the view of getting hit, ruling reviewed by the Speaker was contrary to Parliamentary pt.ictice, and calculated to strike a blow at the liberties of the people. '' Replying to questions put it was stated the Government had examined the newspapei repoits of the case Edgar v. Montrose, heaul at Cambridge, and considered there was something singular in the matter. Tin 1 facts of the case would be formally inquired into. Government did not think it was possible to promote the weaving of woollen goods by cottagers by means of a bonus. New Bills. The following bills were introduced and read a fiivst time :—A: — A bill to enable oersons entering upon the tenancy of houses, wheie gas is laid on, to be supplied with the same without being called upon to pay the arrears of previous tenants (Hutchinson) ; the Patents Act Amendment (Dick) ; the Waipapa Land Dispute (Rolleston) ; the Leaseholders Qualification ; to enable the Governor on the petition of a majority of the electors of any county to declare that "Thty Counties Act, 1576," shall be enforced' therein (Hall); to piotect the property and goods of peisons from unreasonable distress and seizure (Grey). The Representation Bill. The debate on the third reading of the Representation Bill was resumed by Mr Gisborne, who spoke in opposition, as also did Messrs Harris, Seddon, and Taiaroa. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment.
