CORRESPONDENCE. THE CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — Much has been written, and a greal more spoken about the affairs of the Cambridge Jockey Club, more especially since the question of amalgamation ha§ been brought forward. The position of the Club has been criticised in a tone which would lead outsiders to think that the Cambridge Club was anxious for amalgamation, and had been praying the mother Club (W.T.C.) to take the erring child back into her arms. Now the fact of the matter is, the Cambridge Club never expressed anything more than a general desire (solely in the interest of the sport) for amalgamation. And why there should be auch an outcry about it<* indebtedness puzzles me. The proposed purchase of a new course has also caused a great deal of heartburning, but except on the score of expense I have as yet met with no valid argument against the justice of this step. The present course is a good one, — one of the best in the district— and as a steeplechase course cannot be well surpabsed. That, I think, everybody will admit. But the Committee have to look to the future, and the circumstance of the course at Fanthams not being on the proposed railway line is a great bar to its usefulness. It is imperative that access other than that what is afforded by road should bo obtained, and I can see no way out of the difficulty save that adopted by the Committee. — I, am, Sir, A Lover of Good Racing. Cambridge, August 29th.
