CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.

A meeting of the above body was held at the residence of Mr T. Wells Cambridge, on Friday evening last at 7 30 p.m.. There were present Messrs T. Wells (Chairman), J. P. Campbell, E. B. Walker, Fisher and Robfc Kirkwood. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and coniirnied. The Public Reserve and the Jockey Club. The Chairman read a communication from the Secretary of the Jockey Club applying on behalf of the Club for a lease of lot 17, containing 35 acres, at a nominal rentil for the term of 21 years or terms stated therein. Mr Kirkwood, speaking in support of the application, remarked that in accordance with his notice of motion at last meeting, he would move that the Board grant the lease, the ground to be available to the Farmers' Club and for Volunteer purposes. As the district was becoming of greater importance daily, there was no time like the present for effecting this desirable object, and the adaptability of the bite which they had chosen could not be disputed. By acceding to the application of the Jockey Club, the Board, he thought, would be taking a step in the right direction. The Jockey Club, the Farmers' Club, And the Volunteers, were the public, and by handing over this property on lease to the first | named institution, to be available to the two latter, they would in every s-jnse be considering the public interest. Mr Kirkwoods motion on being framed read as follows :— That a lease be granted in terms of the Secretary's letter, with the alterations and additions made by the Board, which are— (l). The le.ise to be granted to three members of the Jockey Club, who will bo approved of by the Board as tiustees. Provided that in case of death or resignation of trusteeship of any of the original trus- ! tees, their successors shall be also I approved of by the Board. The property to be leased for a term of 21 yeais at a nominal rental of one shilling per annum. The Jockey Club to have no power to assign the lease without the consent of the Board. (2). The Farmers' Club or any other kindred association to have the free use of the land for cattle shows, exhibitions of stock, etc. (3). The Volunteers to have the free use of it for reviews, drill exercise, etc. (4). The Club to fence the ground with puriri posts and wire, and lay it down in grass, in accordance with the Board's leasing stipulations. (5). Within five years from granting of lease the Club to plant a row of ornamental trees round the allotment, the trees to be so planted as not to interfere with a view of the racing. (6). The Club to clear, level, and plough lots 18 and 10 on or before 28th February, 1882. (7). In case the Club ceases to hold races for two years after the 30th November, ISB3, or fail to perform covenants of agreement, the lease to be void and the lessor to re-enter. This was seconded by Mr Walker and carried.

Domain Leases. It was resolved that Mr Cooper be not compelled to fence the back line of lot 87. The Board agreed that Mr Fitzgerald be allowed the use of lot 83 during the pleasure of the Board, and that he be compensated for any improvements he may make. The schedules of allotments leased, with their conditions, was laid on the table by the Chairman, who stated that two of the lessees had failed to complete their conditions of lease owing to a dispute as to the price at which the allotments had been Bold at the auction. Having debated the matter at some length, Mr Walker proposed and Mr Fisher seconded that lot 44 be let to Mr Hewitt at lls per acre, and that lot 38 be let to Mr Hosking at 29s per acre per annum, these being the respective prices at which the gentlemen named stated that the allotments mentioned had been knocked down to them at the auotion.
