THE LATE MYSTERIOUS DI SAP PEARANCE. Recovery of the Body of Mrs Luhrs.

It will be remembered that on Sunday, the 24th of July, ultimo. Mrs Luhrs, the wife of a respectable settler in Hamilton East, disappeared from her home under circumstances which led to the general belief that she had destroyed herself. Since the occurrence the police have been most untiring in their efforts to obtain some clue to the fate or the whereabouts of the lost woman. The employes of the Waikato Steam Navigation Company have also kindly assisted by searching the river banks from the steamers, but up till yesterday no success attended these exertions. Yesterday Sergt. McGovern received the following telegram from Constable Hammond, stationed at Ngaruawahia : — " Thomas Henry Jukes just reported to the constable that while on his way from Taupiri to Ngaruawahia he saw a woman's body in a decomposed state lying on the bank of the Waikato river." Yesterday afternoon Mr Luhrs, accompanied by Mr John Knox, proceeded to Ngaruawahia, and identified the body as that of his wife by the clothes and rings, &c. The body itself was decomposed beyond recognition. The remains were removed yesterday to the Royal Mail Hotel, Ngaruawahia, where an inquest will be held to-day before Dr. Beale, Coroner. The funeral will leave the Frankton Station immediately upon the arrival of the midday train.
