WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
An adjourned meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at the Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday, August 23rd. Crs. Steele, Buttle, Roche, Reynolds, Hadfield, Cunningham and Aubin. (Chairman) being present. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings "were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence was read and approved. An application was received for the lease of reserve No. 330. The reserve not beinft under the control of the Council. Cr. Buttle moved and Cr. Steele seconded, " That the application should be made to the Waste Lands Board to have the said reserve vested in the Council, with a view to having the same utilised, Carried." A return was received from the Collector of Customs showing the various License fees paid over to the County Fund up to July 31st. The return only accounted for one Auctioneer's License. Cr. Steele moved and Cr, Buttle seconded* ■" That application should be made to the Colonial Secretary for a fair "share of the license fees paid by Messrs J, Si-Buoklwd, W- 'J. Hunter, R. Bradley, and K. ERU, as the. business of these
Auctioneers is principally done in tho County of Waipa — The motion was curried. A letter was receded from the Chairman of the Ngaruawahia Town Board asking the Council to have the Ngartiawahia ferry placed under their control. Cr. Steele proposed and Cr. Hadfield seconded, " That the Council like proper steps to have the managemenV^the ferry transferred." — Carried. . The Clerk read the resolutions as to the hye-laws adopted on May 24th, and June 14th respectively, which were duly confirmed by tho Council. The Clerk was directed to ascertain wetherjtbe returning offioers for thevarious ridings were willing to act for the forthcoming county elections, Mr J.S. Edgecumbe being suggested as a suitable person to fill the vacancy in the Hamilton riding provided he wUI accept. The Chairman reported to the Council the state of the Te Rore punt, no longer required, the Bridge being open. Cr. Buttle moved Cr. Steele seconded, " That the punt and fittings and ferryman's house be sold, the clerk to take the necessary steps and to obtain the permission of the Colonial Seoretary. Small accounts amounting to £8 were reported and passed and the Council rose.
