WHATAWHATA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

The fine weather we have experienced this week is beginning to make the surrounding country look like as if spring had already set in. The farms on both sides of the river are looking fresh and green, and what is a better sign is to see the cattle lying down chewing the cud, which they seem to enjoy amazingly. I was much struck at seeing a paddock of grass laid down last autumn by Mr E. Dickey. It is on one of the despised hills, which nearly everyone says i8 no good. I really do not think it can be beaten. His farm all through is looking well, and to judge by the cattle and sheep there can be no mistake made about it. They seem quite contented with their temporary quarters. The house, surrounding buildings and sheds look from the road as if a small village had sprung up on the banks of the Waipa. The two adioining farms (Messrs Finlaysons and Hendersons) are both looking remarkably well. Both these gentlemen are practical farmers, so no more need be said on that score. I must again refer to the bridge, as this is ,the time that expenses should be curtailed and money not uselessly thrown away, which will be the case if this is lodger delayed. A very small outlay will do what is needed, and if left longer will be more costly than anticipated.— (August 25th).
