NEW ZEALAND INSURANCE DEPARTMENT. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH,O WN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Saturday.
Thi: meeting held last evening relative to the GoTcnmeiit Insurance Department proved a ridiculous fumo, the tables being completely tutned on. the promoters. The lost of to-night, commeiitmg on it, says :—": — " Last night's meeting was bo palpably got up for Mr McDonotrh to vent hib spite and spleen against the Department in which he was formerly employed, that the persons present saw through him and his little plan instantly, and wei c prompt to resent having been made f oola of. As one speaker said, Mr McDonogh apparently did not think it necessary to explain why his connection with the department ceased. He scattered broadcast all sorts of vague charges against his late superior officers, although he brought no evidence in support ot his reckless accusations. He soon succeeded in thoroughly disgusting his audience who hissed him very heartily. The meeting refused to pass iiny of his resolutions, and left him ignoiniuiously foiled. Mr McDonogh lias been 'hoist with his own petard,' and will have only himself to thank should any disaggreable question be asked in Parliament. "
