The Wade Smuggling Case. Auckland, Last Night.
Night. The re-hearing of the Wade smuggling cases ia still proceeding to-day,. Mr Hesketh addressed the Court for the defence for three hours, yesterday, and Mr Lusk also spoke for the defence more than an hour. The first witness called was Adam Etnile, one of the prisoners, who denied their having been engaged in smuggling at the Wade, and he flatly contradicts the statements of the witnesses for the prosecution. Supreme Court. In the case, Rich and another v. Fenton, claim for damages for wrongful assessment of, duty upon native lands, Judge Gillies gave judgment for the defendant, holding that though an error wta committed, the Judge was not liable to be j proceeded against for it. „. .a Health of Archbisho^i&iJ^M. A letter from Archbishop Swim states that he is dying, Schooner Ashore. Helensvillk, Last Night. The natives report' that the schooner Rona, Captain McKenzie, was on shore oh Friday,; on the West Coast, opposite Helensville, She is bottom upwards. There ia no sign of the crew.
