HA MILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday evening, Present: His Worship the Mayor, Ors. Vialou, Peat, Jones, lippen, Hill and Sandes. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence was read and approved. A letter was recceived from Mr J. B. "Webb re protection of the river bank, opposite the Waikato Brewery, and it was resolved that a committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Vialou and Tippen be appointed to inspect the river bank at this point, and report at a special meeting to be held to-morrow night. Mr W. Cumming -wrote applying: for permission to erect a fence across Cookstroet for the sake of uniformity with the new fence lately put up by him. The letter wai received. Several other letters of no public importance were read. Reports. The Works Committee's report as under was read and adopted :— Hamilton, August 16, iBBr. The Works Committee have the honor to report that the gravelling of Cox's Hill has been completed, 60 loads gravel being used. Owing to the tenders for repairs of culvert in Granthara- street being considered too high, and the bad state of the weather, your Committee had the same repaired by Mr Edwards, costing £5 10s 6d. The Borough workmen attended to the puddling at the outlet ; a horse and dray was employed for half day to r.irt clay for same. The gravelling on Cambridge road, from Bealc's Corner to boundary, is in course of progress, apd your Committee hope to have it completed in the course of this week ; this part was in a very bad condition. John Kvox, Chairman Works Committee. The following report was also read and adopted :—: — Hamilton, August 16, 1881. Endowment Lbashs. To thb Mayor and Councillors,— Your Committee arc of opinion that as the Council declines to pay half the cost as in the Domain land, the lessee should procure his deeds wherever he may think fit. E. McGarrigle, Chairman. In accordance with notice, Or. McGarrigle moved that tenders be invited for the supply of gravel for the ensuing year, the bond to be £50. After some little discussion, the motion, having been seconded by Cr. Peat, was carried, the amount of the bond being altered to £5. , The Town Clerk was instructed to renew the insurance on the Council Chambers and contents. The statement of funds was read as follows: — General Account — overdraft, £389. Special Fund Account— credit, £61 8s 9a. A diaoussion arose as to the desirability of getting the contractor for the Hamilton, branch railway extension to perform the work required by the Borough at the same time, but the question was deferred for the present.
