PIRONGIA HIGH WAY DISTRICT.

A correspondent has forwarded the following fuller particulars of the annual meeting of ratepayers than were furnished by our own correspondent at Haiapepe :—: — About a dozen ratepayers weie present. Mr A. S Sherrett was appointed chairman, and after rending the advertisement calling the meeting, the minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The following statement of accounts was laid before the meeting, condensed from the treasurer's detailed statement : —Receipts : Balance in hand Ist July, 1880, Ll'27 3s (3d ; subsidy from Treasury, L2O os ; rates collected during year, L 54 10s— Total, L2Ol lSs 6d.—Expenditure : Final instalment of LI 2OO paid to Public Account on behalf of Te Rore bridge, LSO ; roads consti notion, repairs, etc., LSO Is 7d ; purchase of tools, materials, etc., L 3 its ; printing aud advertising, L 2 13s ; stamps and stationery, LI 12s Id ; collection of rates, LI ; sundries, do," collors, 14s ; balance in hand, L 62 6s lOd— Total, L2Ol 18s 6d. The accounts having been passed, the old Board was re-elected, consisting of the following members :— Messrs Isaac Hodgson, William Joulan, Jas. McGuirk, Edward Graham McMmn, and James Sherrett. Mr David Roll and Mr A. S. Sherrett were re-elected auditors, and Messis David Fmlayson, junr., and H. Sou they fcnce-vieweis. Mr Robborough proposed—" That it be a recommendation to the new Board that the rate should not exceed ninepencc in the ."—S econded p>o forma by Mr Hodgson. Mr McMiun proposed — " That the Board be left unfetteied in the matter." — Seconded by Mr Thompson, and earned. Speaking to the amendment, the Chan man of the old Board made a statement lefemng to the works undei taken dunng the year, and of the reo&ons preventing them being commenced at an earlier period, chiefly owing to the delay in fixing the site of the Te Roie bridge. At the conclusion of the business Mr McMinn requested the opinion of the settlei b as to celebrating the opening of Te Rote bridge. After discu-^ion it was agieed to leanest the new Board to con's ene a public meeting at Te lloio to considei the matter and take wh.itcn cr steps were necessary. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
