With regard to the £300 paid to Mr Rees, the Public Accounts Committee reported that farther action devolved on the Government cither to proceed against the late Government, or to place the amount on the Estimates as unauthorised expenditure. Mr Hall said he would inform the House what course the Government would take in the matter. Mr Moss gave notice of an amendment on the Representation Bill, affirming that redistribution should be internal with respect to each Island. Several new bills w ere introduced and read a first time. The Estimates. On the motion for going into Committee of Supply, Mr Murray moved as an amendment " That the Estimates be reduced £50,000." Mr Rollestou opposed the amendment, and Mr Turnbull spoke in favour of it. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment. The Estimates. On the House resuming 1 , Mr Hall read the Public Works Statement. The debate on motion for going into Committee of Supply was resumed by >Sir George Grey, who spoke against the Estimates. He thought the Estimates should be considered slowly, as a saving of upwards of £40,000 could be made. The motion for going into committee was carried by 40 to 36. The House then went into committee, and a number ot votes passed without amendment. Some discussion was occasioned by Mr Sheehan asking to have the letter from Sir Julius Vogel laid on the table. I Mr Hall said the letter was a most improper one, and contained offensive and untrue statements, and had been returned to the writer. It was of no jimportance, because Sir Julius Vogel had ceased to be an officer of the Government at the time it was> written. He denied having given information regarding the letter to the Press.
