A NEW RACECOURSE FOR CAMBRIDGE.
Tiik distance of the present racecourse from Cambridge lias often been the .subject of adverse criticism through its m iccessiblc position by other means than coach or horseback Visitors from Auckland and elsewhere have often found it inconvenient, if not almost impossible to find a means of conveyance fiom CainImdge to the racecourse, the demand on many occasions being far in advance of the moans to bring them hither, and settles resident in and about Cambridge ■whoweie desuous of entei fining thenfamilies with a day's lacing have found it impossible to do so. M"r E Hewitt on behalf of the Cambridge Jockey Club has just completed negotiations with Mi Taylor foi the purchase of twenty acics of that gentleman's piopcrfcy, which is adjoining the twenty acres leased from the Domain Board on the town belt The price paid Mr Taylor, (or as^ieed to be paid), is £30 per acie, pait of which Mr Hewitt has aheady deposited. It it intended to utilize these giounds not only foi iaee purposes, but also for airncultuial -show piuposcs, and other local sport gatherings.
